Are you sure this really changed? It's been a while since I've used Word
2000, but I thought the behavior was the same.

Anyway...yes, you can go into Word's Tools>Options, File Locations tab and
choose which folder you want as your default for documents and that's where
Word will go to the FIRST time you go to File>Open ...but if you change to
another folder in there, Word remembers that and takes you back to that
folder, until you close Word down and reopen it, then it will use your
default again.

I *believe* it's always been that way tho...no?

Has the "File | Open" behavior changed from since Word 2000? In Word 2000,
File - Open always took me to "My Documents" or whatever folder I had
specified as the File Location. However, Word XP takes you back to whatever
folder you were last in - no matter where it is. I hope I'm making sense. We
are using Windows XP Professional with Office XP Professional.
