To All,

I posted the question shown below on the Word_DocDesign group four days ago,
but didn't receive any replies. Can anyone here help?

Thank you.

To All,

Sometimes I get a blank page at the end of my multi-page document
(newsletter). I know that one possible cause for this is that the true final
page of the document has a graphic or a text box overlapping the footer. In my
current working document, there is no overlap.

I do specify different footer for odd and even pages (even pages numbered near
the left margin; odd pages near the right margin), therefore I suspect Word is
forcing an extra page because the document currently has an odd number of
pages. If that's correct, I'll find a filler for the extra page or I will
eliminate one of the existing pages so that the document will have a total of
an even number of pages.

I'm asking for help here, however, because the extra (even) page has no page
number in the footer. Except for deliberate omission on page one, every other
page is properly numbered.

Why am I getting the extra page following what I intend as the final page?

Why is this "phantom" page un-numbered?

Note: I have not specified multiple chapters, nor have I intentionally
instructed Word to begin a new section with page 1. The extra page is not page
1 of a new section. In fact, If I insert page number into the footer of the
extra page, the number does follow numerically in sequence after the true
final page.

Let's say the unwanted extra page is page 8. As an experiment, I inserted a
bunch of random text to fill 3/4 of page 8. Then I inserted a page break, and
inserted a bunch of random text on page 9 and on page 10. Pages 9 and 10 do
have a correctly formatted and numbered footer (the number "9" is near the
right margin and the number "10" is near the left margin), but page 8 has no
page number. To summarize, page 1 has the name of the newsletter centered and
no number in the footer. Pages 2, 4, 6, and 10 have the name centered and the
number near the right margin. Pages 3, 5, 7, and 9 have name centered and the
number near the left margin. Only page 8 is faulty. The name is centered in
the footer of page 8 but it has no page number.
