Wilson...did you try a detect and repair from the Help menu in Word? As far as I know, there is no "setting" in any version of Word that would cause this, so I'm in agreement with you that Word has a problem...I would try a detect & repair, then if that doesn't work, uninstall/reinstall. Of course, you could also try opening Word with the /a switch to see if it still happens...if so, then it must be some addin or template...I guess you could even try deleting Word's data key from the registry, since you are probably going to uninstall/reinstall if none of this fixes it anyway. I'm thinking you know how to do all of the above, but if not, instructions are here: http://personal-computer-tutor.com/NNTWord.htm Linda Linda's Computer Stop http://personal-computer-tutor.com ABC Free Ezine ~ Free Ebooks and Tutorials *all outgoing mail scanned by Norton AV. Then he presses "Esc" and the formatting is correctly applied. This happens only on documents created on his machine, not with documents I create here and email him to work on, which seems to indicate it is something in his Word configuration, perhaps in AutoCorrect. This has happened since he installed Office XP. I have tried to go through the Word options with him, by phone, and also had him delete his mormal.dot template to be recreated by Word, but the problem continues. As I'm not familiar with WordXP (I use Word2000 under Win2K) I have been unable to find the cause from a distance. Thanks.
