In 2007 Footnote separate is not on be default (in my system). There is no
line unless you choose to select it or modify.
The paragraph mark (Pilcrow) will have to stay it does nothing except hold
the footnote code like a table marker where one cannot delete the paragraph
mark at end of a table.
