Slow e-mail on DSL 1.5MB americainter.net
HDW = P4 @3.0GMHz, 1GB mem, 40GB HD with 51% free
McAfee Antivirus with e-mail scan disabled.
Master outlook.pst file 5,600,000
25 Files 300K as reported by Outlook 2003 took 4 Minutes to download From
request to release program for other demands Task Mnager reported Outlook
running 44 to 52% CPU Cylcles

Archiving of old email is only one step in reducing the size of the master
PST file.

Microsoft bulletin KB287070 the master *.pst file must be compacted after
doing an archive to achive any reduction in size.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/287070

To Compact the file:
Control panel, Mail icon, Show profiles, appropriate profile, properties,
Data Files, Personal Folders Settings, Compact Now.
Be prepared to allow the computer a significant amount of time to perform
the task.
Experence: 4 hours for a 5.5gb *.pst file to compact.

The primary culprit was an active add-in "Exchange Extensions Property
Pages"
User uses internet mail only, no Exchange Server.
After disabling this add-in:
90 emails in 10 min
