Paul,
What do you get when you select that paragraph, cut it, and paste special it
as text into a new document? Does it get rid of the weirdness? If it does,
then you should be able to take that chunk and paste it back into the
original document.

Thank you for the help and all of you others that have been giving your
thoughts on this problem. Dian, I used your suggestion but it is not
getting rid of the black background which is behind some of the text
that is also black. Now this text is most likely some of what I imported
in.
Linda, I tried giving the background of the file a white colour but
again no joy, it seems such a small problem yet is giving such trouble
in getting rid off.
