 I dunno ... my opinion of freelists is they are very strict and any code
th=at isn't 100% up to snuff, they will not accept .... and I know the guy
who= owns freelists hates microsoft and refuses to bend when it comes to
Micros= oft software .... often I'd report a problem to him and his comment
would b= e "Stop using Internet Explorer" or "Stop using Outlook" and that's
about a= ll he would say ... so Greg discovered this way to fix it and we
were all s= o happy we didn't question it further. Personally, I don't care
why i= t works, I just care that it does. Freelists may be a PITA about
this= , but their listservs are way superior to Yahoo where we used to be,
soI l= ive with it.

Yes, I have read the article by Greg many times ov= er. I still remain
somewhat=20
skeptical (make that just a teeny bit skeptical) but I guess one certainly=
=20
can't argue with success. Greg's article is now a little bit dated in that =
it=20
mentions Outlook versions 10 and 11 but Office 2007 uses Outlook version 12=
.=20
No problem here because the Microsoft Knowledgebase article which discusses=
=20
"How Outlook applies encoding to plain text e-mail messages"=20
(http://sup= port.microsoft.com/kb/278134/en-us)[1] has been updated to
indicate= =20
the registry hack also applies to Outlook 2007.

But Freelist's inability to handle plain text from Outlook still seems a st=
ep=20
out of the ordinary. In fact, Greg's article states that Outlook XP's defau=
lt=20
is to use Base64 encoding. However, Outlook 2007 has changed this and uses =
no=20
encoding by default as stated in the above referenced knowledgebase article=
.=20
So doing the suggested registry hack on Outlook 2007 changes nothing assumi=
ng=20
the user has all the default settings. Unless Microsoft is lying to us=20
(what???). And yet Freelist can't handle no encoding on plain text messages=
.=20
Just one of life's mysteries.
