1. Probably the best way to learn XML mapping is to watch this video from
Microsoft:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=d6037e89-a566-4f10-
9461-aef4e08581b9&displaylang=en

2. Tools> Addins .. put a check in Analysis Toolpak, then click OK. Then
go back to Tools and click on Tools> Data Analysis and choose Regression.

Info on what regression analysis is here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regression_analysis

3. I know how to add category names to the chart (Chart> Chart Options >
Data Labels) ... but, I'm sorry, I don't know how to add these to the
Legend, unless you just add text boxes. Are you sure that's what it asked
you?

4. This was probably a Pie Chart ... to explode the data points, either
click and drag the slices away from the pie, or change the chart type to one
of the exploded types.

5. You didn't give me enuf data here ... what type of chart was it? Did it
have more than two axes? If it was a simple bar chart with normal X and Y
axes, then just go to the Chart menu and choose Add Trendline ... but, if
you wanted to create a new axis and plot that on a trendline, you should
re-read the instructions in the book for making a Combination Chart and
adding another axis.

6. Open the Tools> Customize box, then right click on the toolbar where you
want to add a new group and choose "Begin a Group".

I really think you need to follow my advice in the book and play around with
the different menus and toolbars ... some of this stuff I've never done
myself, but I was able to quickly find it just by looking around. You will
never understand Excel if you always ask someone else to figure something
out for you ... you've got to look around yourself.

You might want to postpone Thursday's exam and do what I suggest MANY times
in the book ... look around and get familiar with what's there ... and use
the HELP menu!

Good luck.

Subject: [mso] MOS Excel 2003 Expert Question

I apologize ahead of time for the long message. I just took the Excel 2003
Expert exam for the second timed and failed again. I'm really disappointed
and wanted to get some help on some items. Linda's book helped me a LOT, my
scores went way up and I definitely would recommend it. Here are the items I
have questions about.

1. XML Mapping - I was asked to map elements from XML to a worksheet. I
went into XML Source opened it and to the right I got a dialog box with a
tree of elements. I was suppose to put those elements in the workbook, but
when I dragged the elements from the tree into the requested cells, nothing
happened. I couldn't get the headings to change.

2. I was asked to load the Analysis tool pack and to do something with a
regression chart, I can't remember the exact question, but wondered if I
could get some more detail on what regression is

3. I was asked to change the legend on a chart to include the category
names on the spreadsheet, I couldn't figure out how to do this on chart
options

4. I was asked to explode the data points, didn't know that one

5. I was asked to add a trendline and show exponential growth on a
chart. When I went to click on the chart so that I could choose "add a
trendline" from the chart menu, the menu would not change to chart it
remained data and I didn't know how else to add the trendline. I went to
chart type to change the chart type to trendline but not sure if that was
right

6. It asked me to place the merge and center button next to print
preview in a new group. I know how to add a button to the toolbar, but what
did it mean by "new group"

Thanks again for a great book, it really did help a lot I just got hung up
on these steps above and it was enough to keep me from passing. I retake for
the 3rd time Thursday and am hoping to get enough info to put me over the
top.
