I *believe* those appear when people use smart quotes in their email which
don't translate well in some instances of plain text. (Smart quotes are an
Autoformat option in both Word and newer versions of Outlook...they change
straight quotes to those curved ones)...those boxes appear when some font
format is not recognized.

Recently, on another list, someone using Word with one of those programs
that read text to blind readers reported that every time he had an
apostrophe in a word, his reader read it as "single quote" and he wanted
this to stop...I told him to turn off smart quotes and that fixed it...so, I
know smart quotes are read differently than straight quotes.

Linda,

What are these little squares that are occuring in alot of messages on the
internet?
They appear to be used instead of quote characters but have seen them where
an apostrophy is supposed to be as well?

with metta always, (metta= "lovingkindness")
