[mso] HELP -- how to scan and save as a .txt document

I have a flyer that I am trying to send into a website to be published on
the web. I was told that it can only be accepted as a .txt document.
I first scanned the flyer and only have options to save as jpeg, gif, etc.
There is NO option to save as .txt.
I saved the scan as a jpeg; opened it in Word; saved it as a .txt document.
It will not open -- just won't open.
Can someone please help me in getting a scanned flyer into text format.
