A user is getting statements that another user is in a file and asks for the open file choices including read only, notify, etc... The file is on a network server and is set for read only anyway and we want it to open as read only. This is a new computer using XP on a Unix file server network using VisionFS. Both windows XP Pro and Office 2000 have had all available updates installed. The previous computer was Windows 98 and everything worked fine. Is there a way to make XP recognize that the file is read only and just open it without asking each time?. Is there a setting somewhere? Also, it was just brought to my attention that a similar problem is happening on files with no one in them. It is asking the already open questions when no one is in the file.
