So why not just put a formula in the summary sheet referencing the
appropriate cell in the data sheet, and copy down.  It will show zeros until
the data is entered and then it will appear in the summary sheet.  Make sure
all the cells in the date column are formatted as dates (probably they will
show 31/12/1900 (which is zero) until you put a date in the data sheet.
