That's the wrong one...it should be CREATEDATE and you need to make the master a template or the dates won't change. If you make it a template, = Word knows to pick the date when a new document (letter) is CREATED from the master template. Then you get the CREATION date and it won't change.=20 Dian Chapman Technical Consultant & Microsoft MVP Free Word Tips & Tricks eBook: http://www.mousetrax.com/books.html Free Tutorial site: http://www.mousetrax.com/techpage.html Free Support Ezine: http://www.mousetrax.com/techtrax/ =20 -----Original Message----- From: mso-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:mso-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On = Behalf Of Anne Robson Sent: Monday, March 31, 2003 10:18 AM To: mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Hmmm - that's what I thought I did - but it still seems to update the = field to current date when an old file is opened again. Next request for help/advice coming up. Back in the dim and distant early 90s, those heady days of WordPerfect = =3D for DOS, I had a nice little macro written that would bring up my letter template including the correct date as a fixed date. =3D20 In Word, my date field options are to have an automatically updating =3D = field (so that whenever I reopen an old saved file it shows me "today's" date rather than the date the file was saved) or enter the date on the basis = =3D of "insert>date and time>[click on date format] and uncheck *update automatically*. That's very cumbersome - I would like the option to =3D = embed a suitable macro in my template but have been scared to investigate = macros =3D in Word! Anybody out there willing to guide me through the maze?
