Alan,

If you are using the same fields from different data sets you may want to
consider using a Union query rather than sub-reports. That way only the
data from each of them will be included and you won't have to worry about
whether individual sub-reports have data or not.

To do this first open all of the queries for your sub-reports and make sure
that the fields, including the name is exactly the same. Next open a new
query and click on the Query Type selector and select Union query. Next
View the SQL of your first report and copy it from its existing query to the
new query. Delete the semi-colon at the end of the query and add Union
after the query. Next copy your second query in the same manner. Repeat
this for each of your queries. After the last one has been added, leave teh
last semi-colon in place and save your work. You now have a Union query.
Base your report on this and you won't need your sub-reports.

Just so you know, Linda has a great article on Union queries in one of the
issues of her e-zine. Check out the archives for my articles and you can
read up on them.

Subject: [mso] Access2000 shrinking detail section of report :VSMail MX1

Hello,

I have a report that has three sub reports in the detail section. Each
subreport may contain data, it is possible that there is no data in any
one of the reports. I would like the subreport to only print if there
is any data and the main report detail section to shrink to accomodate
the subreports that are actually printing.

The sub reports are stacked vertically to allow columns to line up
(each sub report holds the same fields from different data sets).

Any advice and pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Alan.
