Our museum has a curious problems with its Access application and we need
some help in solving it.

The museum has an internal network of 10 PCs (server plus 9 clients) running
on Windows 2000 and Office 97 - both products have all the service packs
installed.

The application is an access front end running (identically) on each of the
clients with an access database holding details of all the museum exhibits
as the back end file store on the server.

One of the fields on the back end database is the file name of a jpeg
thumbnail of the exhibit. The thumbnail is also on the server with both the
database and thumbnail folders being accessed via virtual drives (Z & Y
respectively).

On 8 of the PCs, the application works fine in both Administrator mode and
User mode (we have the same to userids running on all the PCs). On the 9th,
the application works fine in administrator mode, but in user mode,
everything works except for the thumbnails - we get a blank in that field.

We have tried the obvious of checking access to the virtual drive in user
mode and we can display the jpegs via windows explorer with no trouble,
suggesting its not a problem with permissions in windows.

We've also checked the other settings and can see no differences between
this one and the other 8.

We've also moved the pcs around physically and the problem moves with the
pc, making a networking problem unlikely.

Any ideas please ... we're stuck!

Regards,

Fred
