Glenda-- A SQL pass-thru query will only work if the authentication information is appended to the query connection string. You could try asking your Oracle DBA to remove security from the table(s) in question for the purposes of your query, but that won't happen with any DBA's I've ever known. ;-) But all is not lost; you may be able to do a two-step process, depending on factors such as how current the data needs to be. That is, you can create the pass-thru query with its attendant authentication information in one secure Access DB and use it to, say, make a table containing the Oracke data, then you can get to *that* made table from the public Access application. Just an idea... --Jim -----Original Message----- From: mso-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:mso-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Glenda Wells Sent: Tuesday, March 08, 2005 11:21 AM To: mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [mso] Re: Access Queries I don't have a connection string. I was thinking a pass-thru query would be the answer but it seems to me that it stores the username and password with the query which I can't do. If you have a couple of ideas, I'd be grateful for the help Cathy. /g=20 -----Original Message----- From: Cathy.Evans@xxxxxxxxx [mailto:Cathy.Evans@xxxxxxxxx]=20 Sent: Tuesday, March 08, 2005 01:55 PM To: mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [mso] Re: Access Queries You can run the query automatically when the database is opened by adding it to autoexec macro. Is that what you were looking for? What is your connection string? I have seen a couple of ways to connect with a username/password. =20 "Glenda Wells" <gwells@xxxxxxxxxxx To: <mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> > Sent by: cc: mso-bounce@freelist s.org Subject: [mso] Access Queries =20 03/08/2005 08:53 AM Please respond to ....=20 mso =20 =20 Hi All. I want to do a pass-thru query to extract Oracle data but I'd like it to run automatically when the DB is opened. I can't store the password or username in the query because several may use it. Is this possible? I can make a pass thru query in query design but don't know how to make it always happen and prompt for the password and username. glenda ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------------------- The information transmitted is intended only for the person or entity to which it is addressed and may contain proprietary, business-confidential and/or privileged material.
