Robert-- The Access 'Compact and Repair' function has tp open the database before it can do its thing. The JetComp utility doesn't have the restriction, so you may be able to fix it with this. Hours, huh? That's not a good thing. How large is the database, anyway? Even if it's huge, I can't imagine running it all night will help things; it's obviously 'stuck' somewhere. You *do* have a solid pre-repair backup of the file, right? :) --Jim -----Original Message----- From: mso-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:mso-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Robert Carneal Sent: Friday, April 08, 2005 19:13 PM To: mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [mso] Re: Access 2000: Unwanted closing of file, Access closes & exits Lee & Jim- The compact and repair option is about 60 percent done, judging from the progress bar. It is has been running I read Lee's suggestion hours ago. Doing a Control-Alt-Delete and checking the status, it says it is "Running." It reached where it is hours ago and has not noticeably progressed even though it is "Running." Therefore then, let it run all night and leave it alone? Would that be a good idea? Or force it to stop and try the "JetComp utility"? Thank you. But rather than just rely on the the intrinsic Access 'Compact and Repair' function, you may be able to use the better (and free) JetComp utility offered by Microsoft (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/273956). Good luck... --Jim -----Original Message----- From: mso-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:mso-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Robert Carneal Sent: Friday, April 08, 2005 14:05 PM To: mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [mso] Access 2000: Unwanted closing of file, Access closes & exits I made a table in Access 2000, and used the wizard to create a form with the intention of 'editing' the form. The form was made, but whenever I attempt to open it, it opens and as soon as it opens all the way, it reverses, closes, and Access exits Can I correct this? I can't use it if it won't stay up long enough for me to enter and edit data. <g> Thank you.
