Hi Denise! This is Gary Wood, from the class of 1960. You’re leading an
interesting life. After graduation, I spent a short of time in Saginaw doing
some training up there. After that, I worked on piano tuning for a while, when
I came back to Lansing. For a while, I was self-employed, and I tuned some
pianos. I thought for a while, that being self-employed would be great,
because you are your own boss, but I realized that you don’t get the benefits
you have when you work for an organization. I learned Dictaphone typing at a
local high school in an adult education program. I took a few courses of this,
then, I took come correspondence courses from the Hadley School for Business
English and Letter Writing. After that, I went to the training center in
Kalamazoo. After this, I went to Flint for some more training in business
courses. Later, I took a Civil Service General Transcription test, and after
this, I started working for the State of Michigan. I wass in the Medicaid
Monitoring system, where we went after quite a lot of Medicaid Fraud and
overbilling from doctors. After this, I became a General Clerk with the state.
I did this until I retired from working for the State in 1996. I am doing
just fine now, and I live in a retirement facility.

Hi everyone
This is denise Thompson new to the list. Thanks Marcia for getting me
connected. I’m class of 70. I’m back in MI living in Hastings about 25 miles
from grand rapids after 34 years in phoenix Arizona. I came bak two years ago.
I decided it was time to come home and get reintegraded into my family. I love
phoenix and it was a difficult decision, but it was time to come back. My
family has been great since I’ve been back and it’s nice to go to great nieces
and nephews graduation parties and marriages and reunions, etc. the weather?
Well we won’t discuss that, but I will say it’s been nice that the two winters
I’ve been back haven’t been that bad so for that I’m greatful. Smile
I went to phoenix originally to seek my fortune like pioneers before me. I did
find work, but I’m still looking for that fortune thing. Lol
I spent many years working at the local independent center which became and
still is one of the largest in the country. For 10 years I was the state of
arizona’s ADA/5o4 coordinator. I took early retirement in 2005 to escape all
the beurocratic nonsense and then worked for myself as a disability civil
rights consultant until I came back to MI in april 2015.
I keep busy now managing TLF, (the listen factor) which is a group of internet
radio stations that air tv shows. No video just the sound tracks. We air
oldies- shows from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, etc. a few current shows as well both
those that have audio description and those that don’t. it keeps me pretty
busy, but I also love to read, mostly romantic suspense and other action
thriller types.
Most evenings I get together with a group of on-line friends and we play games
on a site called blind adrenaline where we play euchre, spades, texas holdem,
draw and yaht.
At the moment my household family consists of penny my retired dog guide, daisy
my jack russel mix and crystal my miniature dachsund.
So that’s me in a nut shell. Probably more info than you ever wanted to know.
Lol
Denise
