OK. Here’s the scoop. I went to my follow up appointment last Thursday. The
doctor
said that I need to cut back on fats and lose weight, which I knew already. The
results hadn’t come back from the lab with my gall stones. He told me he had to
do what amounts to a double hernia surgery. Yes, I can’t pull, push, lift, etc.
for a long time to come, even longer than the 4 weeks most people have to be
restricted.
He clarified also that nothing looked like cancer inside. That was what I was
most
worried about considering so many of my family members died from small cell
cancer.
So, I’ He gave us a picture of the liver and said it was probably genetic that
is so fatty. He did ask who performed my last hernia surgery and said the mesh
was all messed up. He also said that the belt, they gave me should have been
two, that when put together would be easier to manage on and off. It took two
nurses to apply it the first time, and is very difficult for Duane to put on me
now without my help. But I’m still wearing it as it does feel better than not
wearing it. m still sleeping in my recliner for the most part. Tried sleeping
in bed last
night, but it only lasted a couple of hours. Too uncomfortable! Anyway, then
there’s
my husband Duane. Since he’s been basically lifting me up and down out of my
chair,
on and off the toilet, etc. he has hurt his left knee. So we went to the V A’s
emergency
room after my appointment. He’s been hobbling around since last Monday. I was
afraid
they would keep him so we waited until after my appointment. Otherwise, I might
not
have a ride to get there. So, they just gave him a walker and noted all of his
difficulties
and when he goes to PT regarding his back, they’ll discuss his knees as well.
Duane
mentioned his knee problems somewhat when he went on the 18th to see his primary
doctor, and x-rays were done at that time. So PT can issue a request for MRI or
CT, next Thursday. We’ll see. his walker helps, so at this point in time,
we’re
both kind of down and out. So, we’ll see who heals first, since Duane has to
deal
with Government to get anywhere. He finally has an orthopedic doctor appointment
on August 8th, where I’m sure more discussion will take place regarding all of
his
joints, not just his left hand pointer finger. But he’ll have to go through the
whole Choice referral thing to get clearance for anything done. So, that’s our
story
