Steve I had the same thought, "Aluminum doesn't rust." He probably misspoke.
He could have gotten the infection from the "aluminum" that cut his Arm
though. Or from some bacgteria getting into the cut after the injury.

Wow! Scary stuff, those damn infections. When something like that gets in
due to a abrasion or wound, it can be scary stuff.
But, I'm compelled to note something of significance in his post, something
that isn't true:
Aluminum doesn't rust. Only ferrous metals rust.
Aluminum may corrode with oxidization, but actually that corrosion hardens
and actually protects the metal. This is particularly true of aluminum 5052
alloys. The actual oxide is hard to chip off.
Ok, how do I know this? Well, I did work at Kaiser Aluminum and at the
time, there was a big controversy about aluminum wiring that was featured on
20/20. They claimed that the aluminum wiring was causing house fires.
The President of Kaiser, Steve Hutchcraft went on to refute that. It turns
out that the aluminum wiring wasn't at fault itself -- what was at fault was
people who wired the houses because they joined the aluminum to a regular
electrical box with different metals. It was that bond that broke down and
caused the fires. When junctioned properly, the aluminum was entirely safe.

Just saw this on facebook.
Jeff Dickeson
Hello! After an injury sustained from falling against a piece of rusty
aluminum resulting
in a serious bacterial infection I spent from Sept. 22 through Oct. 1 in the
hospital!
It did NOT get any better and underwent surgery on my arm and continued on
heavy
duty antibiotics. I have since been released and in a convalescent center in
Loudonville,
OH. for further treatment of antibiotics and various therapies......
.hopefully only for another week after staples come out from surgeon and
then home
health care nurses so that I can be back "home". Please let any friends that
would
want to know or be interested as this is the only post I will make on my own
computer
while here for just an hour of leave and no access to on at the nursing
home. Love
and best to all. Jeff
