BlankI saw that one of our listers was having a problem with email with Gmail.
I posted
this to a different list over a month ago, so I will post this to this list if
it helps
others struggling with the Gmail change.
I use Outlook Express with my Windows 10 Pro computer. I still like the way
it interfaces and that I can integrate several email addresses easily into
one in-box.
Now, a heads-up for those panicking about losing gmail access to Outlook
Express and other less-secure apps. I discovered this quite by accident
because I had as of a couple years ago needed to enable this for a different
gmail address that I had. When I was notified by Gmail at the end of last
month that my gmail address wouldn't be supported after May 30, I noticed
that it applied to two of my Gmail addresses I hadn't enabled to use
"less-secure" access, but the one that I did enable it on would still
continue to work.
So, I thought I'd post this as a hint on this list since I know there are
others who could be affected.
How to Enable Gmail to Work with Older Mail Clients:
Log-in to your google account associated with the email address you want to
make work with an older email client.
Go to the "manage account" link. You may need to expand the submenu that
lists your account name to show this menu.
Go to the Security link and press Enter.
You must have two-step factor authorization enabled to proceed further.
From the Security section, select "App Passwords."
Look for the list of google apps for which you can assign a sixteen
character app password from the listbox.
Then, select the device associated with that app.
Example: if you are using Outlook Express, select "mail" in the first list;
then select Windows Computer in the second list.
Hit the "generate" button to get a sixteen character alphabetic password.
Go to the email account in your mail client; open the properties section and
put this password into the password box (remembering to delete the old
password first.)
Hit OK and Ok again if necessary; then close the account.
