Dear Lion Leaders,
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Past International Director
Douglas X. Alexander to the office of International First Vice President by
resolution of the Lions Clubs International Board of Directors. Past
International Director Alexander fills the vacancy created due to the
passing of our beloved International Vice President Judge Haynes H.
Townsend.
Vice President Alexander has been a member of the Brooklyn Bedford
Stuyvesant Lions Club since 1984 and served as international director from
2010-2012. Professionally, he is a retired Vice President for J. P. Morgan
Chase Bank. In recognition of his service to the association, he has
received numerous awards including the Ambassador of Good Will Award. Vice
President Alexander is a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow.
*2020-2021 Presidential Election Procedures*
The International Constitution, Article V, Section 4(k) provides that any
vice president appointed to fill a vacancy shall be required to be elected,
in the manner set out in this constitution and by-laws, to all successive
offices. Further, any Lion who is currently serving or who has served in
the office of international director will also be eligible to run for the
office of International President during the 2020 International Convention
in Singapore.
The Lions Clubs International Board of Directors passed a resolution
requiring all current or past international directors who wish to contest
for the office of International President during the 2020 International
Convention in Singapore, to declare their intention to run for office in
writing with the Legal Division at least sixty (60) days (April 28, 2020)
prior to the convening date of the 2020 International Convention.
Please note the Board of Directors also passed a resolution in
consideration of financial implications, the Presidential Theme and Board
of Directors Meeting locations for the 2020-2021 fiscal year, previously
chosen by the late First Vice President Judge Haynes H. Townsend, remain
unchanged for the 2020-2021 fiscal year and will not be permitted to be
changed by the elected International President.
