The railroad may be forced to put positive barriers in place to guard some of its crossings. Could some of the roads be closed, with permanent barriers, to eliminate a few of the crossings -- ideally the most dangerous? Could the families of the drivers who are killed or crippled get outrageous settlements through the British court system? At a minimum, maybe some speed bumps could be added to the road far enough back from the crossing to encourage the drivers to slow their cars down. The Darwin Effect seems not to be working here, as it is the innocent locomotive drivers rather than the automobile drivers who are being killed and injured.
