Peter, I have never had any of my safety valves corrode and stick although it is sometimes years between steam ups. (This happens when you have five locomotives and have to travel 185 miles to get to a track.) Some poor lokie always sits on the sidelines awaiting its turn.. Maybe your water is full of minerals?? Stainless shouldn't corrode or at least none of my valves have done so. Unka Jesse in Tennessee > What happened was that I made the mistake of steaming up, pressure > rising nicely, out of the steaming bays onto the main line, pressure > continuing to rise, past the 10% and rising! Drop the fire (on the main > line) back to the steaming bays and remove the safety valves. (the > stainless steel balls had corroded!) MODEL ENGINEERING DISCUSSION LIST.
