Alan, I don't believe it should be too difficult - I have a page from an American book listing steam whistle tube lengths for various notes, and I know that the bell of an A4 chime was 9" tall. According to the page, this fits well with my daughters guess of an F# (which, on the middle octave, requires a tube 9.1" long) Still, I haven't tried making it yet....... The note from an organ pipe depends mainly upon the pipe length. Even on a loco of this size it may be hard to find the space to fit somethign of the required size. A resonator box is one solution which works for a single note, but I am not sure how one would arrange it for multiple notes. Does anyone know what chord an A4 chime whistle makes ? My musical daughter says she can hear that the lowest note is an F# (tone deaf Dad hasn't a clue....), but I'd like to know what the other two are so that I can make a whistle for a large 7.25" narrow gauge engine with that marvellous sound.....
