Good Afternoon MMR Cabalistas,
Over the part few weeks I have been working with my Mom to bring her out
of the dark ages with the cell phone that she uses.
The first part of this was to upgrade her old iPhone 4s to iOS 9(from
iOS7). After the update I noticed that while she was receiving text
messages there were no notificaitons on the lock screen, No notificaiton
sound, and no red badge on the messages app to show unread text messages.
I verified that notificaitons were turned on in settings for the messages
app and toggled them off then back on. Do not disturb is not enabled.
I thought it might be an issue with the phone so I backed up her iPhone 4
and then restored it on to my old iPhone 5s running iOS 12.
The problem didnt go away after the hardware migration and I also noticed
that her text messages would disappear after the phone was restarted. To
simplify things I made sure that she wasnt logged in to iMessage and we
were only dealing with SMS text messages. I did a bit of googling to
verify the troubleshooting approach I was taking.
Thinking that it might be a preference/setting I went through and first
reset the network settings and then went in again and reset all settings.
Neither of these changed the notificaiton or message retention after
restart issue.
Have any of you folks encountered this in the past? If so, what did you do
to resolve the issue?
Looking for any ideas before I go to starting with a fresh phone with no
restore, swapping her SIM over and then manually rebuilding her address
book and downloaded apps.
