ISTR a worldwide ‘conference’ where we all the countries of the free world
(including the Kurds) got together to ‘discuss’ this very problem. It was a
unanimous decision. Votes were taken and shit.

The fact is, some form of monitoring is required. The use of social media to
straight up plan crimes, large scale ones is not myth or exaggeration. Even
aside from Jan. 6th, this actually happens, and no, I don’t think planning
crimes falls under any legitimate definition of free speech.
It’s like the lessons bars learned in the 80s: whenever some fuck wearing
swastikas walks in, you kick them the fuck out. A polite nazi is still a nazi,
and if you don’t, then the not so polite ones show up, and you now run a nazi
bar.
What’s the pisser is how blatantly and deliberately incompetent FB, Google, and
Twitter are at this. They allow their stuff to be gamed, and in the case of
Google, when you point out they’re banning/blocking things like BLM and Black
power, but not White Supremacy shit on YouTube, their response was to block
even more keywords used by minority groups while leaving the KKK shit
untouched. The Markup had a solid article on this.
FB, Google, and Twitter long ago realized the money is in shit like Richard
Spencer and Stormfront, not the other way around. The data shows this.
The idea that somehow relentless debate will get rid of bad ideas has been
disproven. That anyone, including myself ever thought otherwise shows how
attractive a delusion it was. For that to work, all sides have to debating in
good faith with some form of intellectual and ethical honesty. People calling
for the right to let LGBT people not get medical treatment because gays are
icky are not participating in good faith. Fuckers with nazi tattoos, same way.
You can’t debate people like that and win, for any value of winning.
I’m kind of annoyed by Twitter jail, but that’s about it. It’s the deliberate
incompetence that I find more infuriating.

Well, the problem is that all the "Big Tech" were hauled in front of congress
and threatened with regulation and/or dismantling, so they said they'd acquiece
and "police their content". If you cheered that process you're getting what you
wanted. You see the only way to "police their content" in any scalable
real-time way is through AI/ML, which quite frankly isn't intelligent and
"learns" at our expense.
Any of you that know me well also know that I never discuss anything online
that is remotely sensitive. None of you know my politics, nor my viewpoints on
economics, or religion. I just don't share them, except face-to-face, and then
only when prompted or with plenty of appropriate lubrication… in vino veritas
and all that.
But, I've endured multiple social media jail terms for such comments as:
"Do bars deliver? ;)" (on a foodie group about local eateries that somebody
listed and one such named was a bar.) FB's AI thought I was talking about gun
violence. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
"Damn Canadians!" (when a friend in Sweden posted a pic of Canada Geese pooping
on his lawn. FB's AI said it was hate speech. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I have learned that it
is totally okay to hate Quebeckers, so now I type "Damn Canadiens!" and it
flies by the AI.)
The final, and longest (THIRTY DAYS!) jail sentance came when I *shared* this
video to an internal FB/ex-FB group for skiers & snowboarders:
https://youtu.be/poVXrFfe4mM ;
<
https://no-click.mil/?https://youtu.be/poVXrFfe4mM>
It almost got the group removed from FB, and landed me in "jail" for a month
for violations of "community standards". Mind you, I shared it from another ski
group, and it was shared subsequently from there to MULTUPLE feeds, pages, &
groups with no such similar repercussions for anyone else. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Thank your congresscritters.
