Saturday, Sept 3, 2016: Field Trip Leaders workshop – learn to lead your own
trip!
Enjoyed our field trips? Learn to lead your own! Join Dr. Mark Woodrey as he
presents guidelines for leading a smooth and rewarding birding field trip.
Topics to be covered include field trip planning and scouting, managing a
group, guiding participants with different skill levels, and post-field trip
actions including creating an eBird checklist. The presentation is based on
guidelines from Audubon chapters throughout North America and will include a
walk around the MSU-CREC grounds to practice some of the techniques discussed
in the class.
We’d especially like to have our seasoned field trip leaders to attend this
workshop. Mark will suggest ways to make our trips more standardized, and we
can share stories and tips to make the experience even better for everybody.
Although the focus will be on birding, this workshop is appropriate for Scout
leaders, teachers, Master Naturalists, and anyone who wants to take a group
into the field to learn about nature and habitats, so please pass this notice
to anyone you think would be interested.
Place and Time: Mississippi State University Coastal Research and Extension
Center, 1815 Popps Ferry Road, Biloxi, MS, 8:00 – 11:30 AM.
