After reading the below interesting post from the Duncans in Gulf Breeze this
morning where one of the birds they had in their yard today was a Louisiana
Waterthrush, we were sitting out in our back yard in Pascagoula about noon
today, and what did we have? We had a La Waterthrush too. Could not
believe our eyes. I heard a couple of chips, looked around, and the bird was
walking along the lowest limb on Oak tree pumping its tail about 15 feet away.
I went out back a few minutes later but did not get bird to respond to
playback. Then I walked over to a puddle just over the fence where
waterthrushes had fed in the Spring, and there it was. I got some photos that
I will post my Ebird List this evening. This appears to be a really early date
for La Waterthrush on MS coast. Another nice sign that migration is starting
along the coast.
Hope everyone has a good 4th of July,

Subject: [ALbirds] Yellow Warbler & Louisiana Waterthrush!
Hi all,
What a way to start the Fourth! Scot Duncan heard the distinctive “zeet” call
of the Yellow this morning at our home in Gulf Breeze and a few minutes later
Will Duncan spotted two Louisiana Waterthrushes at our pond! All I got on my
morning walk to the point was a Gnatcatcher, but the first for the neighborhood
for me this year. Unbelievable. That tops an exciting week so far with two
Bears yesterday morning, one a big male, demolishing our feeding station! And
the day before, we watched in astonishment from the breakfast table as another
did the same thing! What??? And later that afternoon I inadvertently walked
within about 10 feet of a large bear eating from our feeder. He paid me no
attention to me, fortunately! If that was not enough, a few days before, the
family watched a Manatee swim under our dock, another first!! What next?
A front along the coast, rather unusual for July, probably accounts for the
early birds. It’s fall migration has started!
(Incidently, the feeders are now suspended high from an array of ropes and
pulleys that look as if a circus trapeze act is about to break out. And why
not? We already have bears! Lucy)
