I was having trouble getting Farhan's Specan.exe to work under WINE on my
Mac OS X and Linux computers. After studying the simple serial protocol, I
thought that it wouldn't be too difficult to recreate the GUI in something
cross-platform. I ended up making a Chrome packaged app that I call
Specan.Chrome: https://github.com/neilmb/specan.chrome.
It is functional and useful for me right now, but it is fairly spartan. It
can plot a single sweep and it monitors the output power level continuously
once per second. I could use some brave beta test volunteers who are
willing to download the source code and load it up in their Chrome browsers.
If you would be willing to help, I would be happy if you could download
the source: https://github.com/neilmb/specan.chrome/archive/master.zip,
unzip it, then load it as an extension in your Chrome browser (you'll have
to enable "Developer Mode" on the extensions page). Then, just plug in
your Sweeperino or Specan, open the app, select your serial port and click
"Connect". I'd love to hear if it works or especially if it doesn't work.
My goal is to continue adding features including relative calibration
sweeps (very useful for sweeping return loss), saving graphs, and plotting
multiple traces until it is at least equivalent to the original
Specan.exe. If you have suggestions, or even better code contributions, I
would love to hear from you either via email
