Hi:
I'm trying to equalize a portion of a waive file in sound forge. I play to the
point where I want the equalization to stop and hit controll+shift+Home and
equalize that section. What happens is that the file then only plays that
portion. I've been doing this for years, any suggestions? Note that I don't
have any jaws scripts for sound forge.
Thanks.

*>If I use any sounds internal to the laptop then the loud broad-spectrum white
noise starts up. It's like, sort of, what it sounds like on an AM radio between
channels, or an old style TV that didn't go blue screen on inactive channels.
So it's not wiring, no chance of that since the noise is only when recording
and only when using a driver or other software instrument.
So your recording in sound forge, and the noise only happens when your
recording from an internal source? How do you do this, i.e. do you set your
internal sources output device to be your lexicon interface, or are their
output devices set to the internal soundcard of the computer? Since it only
happens when trying to record from software instruments, it seems like your
picking up digital noise from the processor, and this issue is most often seen
while recording from internal sound chips on the motherboard. If your software
instruments are being routed to your external interface, and then soundforge is
recording from that interface, then it's less likely to be bus / processor
noise, especially since recording from the kurzweil doesn't exhibit it.

Unless something's gone pear shaped with my interface, it's not hardware
related. And BTW, my interface is powered from the USB port, so no
possibility of a ground loop there.

Hi nicole
Read what I wrote to you again about groundloop.

Oh, this is far more than noise in a signal. With the exception of the
Kurzweil, it obliterates everything coming from the sound sources in the
computer. Changing the input and output settings makes no difference.

Have you unplugged your Kurzweil? I've heard noises like that when one end
of a wire/connector is plugged into the audio input jack of the PC and the
other end is not plugged into anything. That can act like an antenna.
Make sure everything is plugged into everything else tightly.

It only happens when recording in Sound Forge, which is the only audio
software on the system. The machine won't run without AC power -- the battery
is long ago fried out.

Does this white noise happen when you have your computers AC plugged in? Or
does it happen on batteries as well? Does the noise sound like bus noise?

HI Nicole,
You may be suffering from a ground loop then.
The best way to get red of that is to get a small USB thingy that breaks
that loop.
There is one called Ifi defender, but in general a galvanic isolator can be
used.
Best regards
Brian

I'm recording from a Lexicon Alpha. The only audio going in is the Kurzweil,
which I don't use all the time on tracks. This happens when it's not playing
anything, and if it is that's the only thing that comes through, though the
noise is present too. I'm playing back out of the Alpha, but any kind of
loopback through it is turned off.
The noise obliterates the sound sources coming from inside the computer. I
can't hear any sound at all other than the noise and what the Kurzweil is
playing.

Hey Nicole,
How loud is this noise floor?
Exactly from where do you tap your recording source. I mean what ins and
outs? Have you tried recording with nothing attached to your ins on the
audio interface?

Oh, it's not hum, it's harsh white noise. I'll try those though, because it
might help other stuff.

Hi,
Does your interface has got a floor noise some kind of filter? Usually is a
button on the back close to the electrical plug.
Also, check if that resolves using the laptop only with the battery, I mean,
unplug the electrical transformer.
Yet, within the SoundForge software use the DC Offset filter, it means
Direct Current.
Well, if you’re pointing to a electrical hum usually is around 60hertz, so,
a low cut filter around that could resolve it.
I hope that this makes sense and helps you to resolve that annoying issue.
Best regards, Rui

Hey, folks,
I'm having an interesting problem using Sound Forge 7 to record
material from inside the laptop.
When I start the sequence everything turns into loud harsh noise.
This persists until I stop the sequence, and it dies down; I can
hear a bit of the end of the sounds coming from the sound sources.
This includes my 2x2 Lexicon Audio interface, though the inputs from
my Kurzweil don't suffer the noise problem.
Anyone run into anything like this? I've tried all kinds of
different routing stuff, including turning off playback. I've also
adjusted volumes down too, but nothing seems to help.
Thanks for any direction y'all can provide.
