Yes, it's mainly for monitoring, but I'm a bit fet up with channels bleeding
into others and with the hissing noise when I have to turn the faders up very
high. I have a sound devices 552 right now, a portable analog mixer with built
in stereo recorder, probably already out of production. It's a pretty nice
little mixer, but now that I started to do things with reaper I've run out of
channels. And it's annoying to hear jaws still speaking a bit, although the
fader is already down ...
Maybe I'm just over sensitive because I'm a classical church musician ...
I had a soundcraft compact 4 and a Zoom L12 so far. the latter died
spectacularly over night ...
So I thought, if I can, I'd go digital this time.
According to here the Behringer X32 seems to be really pretty accessible, apart
that you probably will have to memorize or write down some menus:

I probably wait a bit longer until I get a special reading device for blind
people. It's called VideoTIM and it shows you what's on paper or displays on a
tactile graphical display. I'm planning to do a youtube video once I'm familiar
with the device.
If you all are interested I can share it here, although this will be probably a
bit of topic then.

I think you said it was for momainly monitoring your equipment. There
wouldn't be many advantages in that role to have a digital over an analogue.
Apart from the fact the digital may be smaller.
But then if you need a control surface as well, it gets bigger again.
The alan and heath mixers are very nice and may suit your purposes, and
wouldn't have the access issues.

I came upon a post where a guy called Goldfingas wrote that Behringer X32
Producer is accessible. I don't know what things look today, but the software
of the Behringer devices probably isn't fully accessible,. So I think I
really would like to have physical control of a mixer.
Should I get a Midas MR18 plus a Behringer X-Touch or have rather everything
in one device with a Behringer X32 Producer? Would it matter considering
accessability?
And something I have to consider as well: I don't have a separate room for
recording, so the mixer should be very quiet, preferably without noticeable
cooling fan. Do the Midas MR18 or Behringer X32 Producer have cooling fans?

Do you have the Midas MR18 in use? Is the software accessible both on mac
and on windows?
Or should I better get an XTouch Control surface in order to get physical
controls right from the beginning? Sure, it would be two devices, but I
rather have two than one I can't access properly.

Sorry, if this topic has been discussed many times ...
I'm looking for a digital mixer with 8 to 16 channels. It's for
monitoring all my audio sources and maybe also recording into reaper.
Unfortunately I don't have too much space in my room, so I'd prefer a small
footprint.
I do little projects at home, mostly. things like recording rehearsal
tracks for my choirs, singing the voices to some MIDI tracks.
My problem at the moment is that I don't have enough channels to
monitor
everything: Two stereo channels from my two computers and and two
mono channels for each screen reader.
I have a sound devices 552 mixer.
There is some reasons why I'd like to go with a digital mixer this time.
Less hissing noise I think and I got myself an RME Digiface USB some
time ago - just because I could get it for a good price and it was
hard to get other RME audio interfaces. The RME Digiface USB has
several digital ADAT inputs and outputs. I wonder if I could use them
with a digital mixer? I admit, I never had much gear with digital
IO's, besides sony and marantz recorders.
And I also admit that I don't entirely know what to do. this may
sound a bit stupid, but I just don't know if what I'm looking for
even exists in the digital realm without being inaccessible or way
out of budget, let's say about $1500 and above. I'm not sure if this is
realistic at all.
