Hi again Toni,
Sorry to keep bothering you. <grin>
I’ve been rethinking my media server plans.
Have you had any experience with Plex media server?

Resources about SSH are all over the internet, but here is the one specific to
enabling and logging into Synology NAS:

Yes I was going to buy one of the Synology 5 bay Nas
Products and buy drives, of course.
Can you recommend a source for info on SSH and/or telnet?

The Synology NAS hard drives are no network attached devices, they are just
hard drives which usually get inserted in said NAS devices. You cannot stream
stuff to your phone, PC and whatnot with them, you'd need an actual NAS device
for that matter, or they will just be regular hard drives. If your question
regards the actual NAS devices, like e.g. the DS223 or any of those, they are
like 60 to 70 % accessible, and close to 100% if you're familiar with SSH
and/or telnet.

I plan to use it for streaming music and video via phone, PC, or tv.

The question is, are you planning to use them in a NAS, doesn't matter if
Synology, QNAP or something different? If yes, go for them, they are pretty
good. I'd personally always use Ironwolf Pro's over them, but that typically
comes down to personal preference. If not and you're planning to use them
standalone, there is no need to pay the extra money for a dedicated NAS drive,
just go with a typical external drive.

I’m wondering if anyone has used the Synology Nas drives?
They look easy and seem to be a pretty slick way to go for audio and video
storage.

I’m wondering how easy it is to set it up—I assume there’s some software
involved.
