I just stumbled upon this on YouTube and included the link below.
It's the new Lewitt RAY microphone. It's a standard large diaphragm
condenser. The magic is that it has two processors you can turn on or off.
The first is essentially an auto-gain and auto-high pass filter that will
self-adjust as you move closer and father from the mic. The second is an
auto-mute you can set to whatever distance you want. As the guy in the video
says, think of it as a bubble around the mic. You move outside the bubble
and it mutes. Move back inside and it unmutes. It seems to work well. I
understand it's one of their existing mics (I think the 440) with this
capability added. I have a different Lewitt mic and it's a fantastic mic.
I guess this is aimed primarily at podcasters, so I don't know how well it
will work in typical musical applications. But I thought it interesting
nonetheless.
