You mentioned in a previous email the Juno 6. Now you are saying Juno 61. I
presume these are 2 different models of Juno?
When they model a synth they usually make it as close to the original as
possible. So I presume a juno61 VSTI would have that sampling.
You would just need to explore them as I think there are at least 4 companies
who have modelled the juno6

DO the juno VSTI’s only do synthesis? My Juno DS61 actually has samples and I’m
more interested in the samples, i.e. piano, fm synth piano as demoed in the
link in my original message etc.
Do you know of a free or inexpensive VSTI which would mimic those pads/digital
pianos?

Yes you could set up, say track 1 as midi. And track 2 as an audio track
receiving the audio from your juno outputs.
So you would set trck 1 midi to record and track 2 the audio to either record
or set the monitor on that trck to input. So as you record your midi you hear
the juno on 2.
Once you have finished recording that track, you would disarm record on track
1, and enable record on track 2 then record from the start of the song to the
end.
You now have that audio part recorded on 2. And the midi is on track 1.
Then go to track 3 set as midi and 4 as audio and play in your second part
whilst listening to your first audio on track 2. And you may also have a
metronome playing along as well.
When track 3 is finished you then disarm it and enable record on trck 4 and
record from the top to the end on track 4. Your second audio part is now
recorded.
Then continue after that more tracks.
Problem is if you decide to go back to track 1 and re-record the midi on bar 5
say, you will have to set the juno back to that sound and select input monitor
on track 2 so you don’t hear the recorded audio, but you here now the live
audio as you re-record that bar 5.
You would then either record a new audio part on track 2, from start to
finish, which incorporates your new bar 5. Or you could play the track and
just drop in on bar 5 and out on bar 6.
Or you could program those 2points as punch in and punch out. It’ll do it
automatically.
This is a very cumbersome way of doing things.
You’re better off purchasing a juno vst plug in instead. Check arturia they
make very good recreations of old synths. Better than native instruments.
You would then simply open 4 or 6 instances of juno and assign the output of
each midi track to one of the instances.
You then use the juno as your master keyboard, to play in your notes.
The plug in will respond to the keyboard motions, plus respond to your mod and
pitch wheels, but possibly not respond to any of the other knobs and buttons on
the juno. Just have to try it and see.

Thanks Ross, downloading demo now.
Also, could you answer my other question re Juno synth? I.e.
I want to use my Juno DS not only to record midi, but as the sound engine to
render that midi.
I’ve figured out how to tell Reaper that the Juno is the midi device for input
and output, but not sure where to go from there.
If I arm a track and play my keyboard, I do hear sound from the keyboard, but
not sure about actually recording the audio and midi together so that the midi
is editable and the notes always play the instrument from the Juno. Also, how
does that work for separate instruments? Does the Juno always have to be
connected or is there a way of when initially recording the midi, getting the
correct samples from the keyboard for that track (like a VSTI instance), so
that once recorded, the Juno can be unplugged?
I’m a bit confused.

You can use a program called RipX which will split your tracks to at least 4 or
may be even more.
This would make it easier to do more detailed audio to midi conversion.
Or you could even just keep your separate audio files and do a totally new
remix.
Remembering that these separation tools can have some artifax about them which
can cause some issues.
Separation software like this is in it’s early stages at the moment, but
getting better all the time.

Hi all,
I found a really old recording from the 80s of our band. I want to restore the
music. What I did was use stemroller to extract the music without vocals.
I then used an online midi to audio converter and it seems to have done an
interesting job but obviously it didn’t separate the piano from the guitar. Is
there anyone on this list who thinks they might be able to help me sort out the
conversion so that the guitar and piano are separate midi tracks?

I have not done anything with midi before. I think I now know how to use my
Juno DS for both audio and midi so if someone could help me sort out the mid
file as a starter, I’d really appreciate it. If its too hard, let me know
Also, with my Juno DS, I’ve figured out how to route the midi out back to the
juno for playback, but not sure how I can record the audio of the midi, does it
go to same or different track? I’ve never worked with midi more than playing a
mid file.
