Hi Brian: As to your first question: There isn’t much one can do about the
intros and fill-ins, unless you create, say, a melody track and select an
instrument and play some extra notes. You can also use the “unfold” function in
the edit menu. When the song is unfolded, you have one “chorus” instead of 3.
Say you set a traditional form with 4-bar intro, 32 bars of chorus, 3 times.
Unfolded, that would make 4 plus 3 times 32, plus any ending you might have.
You can now make slight variations throughout as needed, perhaps changing the c
chord for a c chord with a g bass, and similar things. You can type the word
“end,” and experiment until it ends where you like it to.
As for the sound, there is a way of writing a patch map for your particular
synth, so that you can select those sounds. I haven’t been able to make it work
for my Yamaha PSR S900, but it works for other synths.
I’m pasting in some suggestions from a BIAB listserv I’m on. It’s from David
Bailey, the top BIAB guru on that list.
If your synth is GeneralMidi2 compatible, it should work perfectly with BIAB.
In the Options / Midi/Audio Setup . . . make sure that "General Midi Instrument
Misc." is showing. If not, then open the drop-down list and select it. Click
OKAY. The selection you make should be the active one each time you start BIAB.
If that doesn't work, there are several ways to solve your problem.
1) try copying your .pat file into the Data\Util\Synth Kits folder within your
BIAB folder (possibly C:\BB or wherever you installed it)
2) start BIAB
3) in the Options\Midi/Audio Setup... dialog in the upper right click on the
Synthesizer/SoundCard drop-down list and see if the RD 700GX appears. If so,
select that and then click OKAY at the bottom.
Try a song and see how BIAB operates with that selected.
Another way:
1) open the Preferences dialog
2) Click on the button labeled 'Patch Map'
3) using the patch listing from the manual for your Roland synth, enter the
patch number that corresponds to each instrument. The screen shows
1-64 - to access the higher listed instruments click on the 65-128 button.
Once you've specified all the instrument patches, save what you've done and
then that should be the active list each time you start BIAB.

So now I’ve been working day and nights to get the grips of Band in a freaking
box. 😊
I really love what I hear, but when you experiment, it inevitably raises some
questions.
I can now build my songs at lease to a certain extent, Many many thanks goes to
Gudrun, Pete, and Michael for kicking me in the right direction! 😊
Here are some thoughts and questions so far.
I think PG Music thinks too much about choruses, and not enough about intros,
verses, bridges, and fil ins.
Can someone please enlighten me here. How do I build a complete song from start
to the very end? What about fill ins and such?
The other big issue I have is the sound. I mean yes the instruments are nicely
played, but the mix often is awful. 😊
Can we in any way access the mixing functions, or what do you recommend there
for making the end result sounding more naturel?
Later today I’ll install Biab on a Windows 10 machine to see, if the Jaws
scripts will behave better there.
By me I get no audible feedback when pressing the P key to toggle part from
none to a to b… Any hint about that?
