I use the echo dot five and it works well if not wanting to watch vidios,
The echo show 8 gen 3 Was the only one available this Christmas, and I
have found it frustrating to use. I have heard the echo show 8 gen 2 is
more blind friendly.

I listened to some demos on youtube and it sounds really promising. On the
echo show, can one touch the screen and hear the name of a playing song? If
yes, this would be an advantage of having the touch screen. Or can you get
this information as well with an echo dot? Also, could I pair two echo
devices to have a good stereo image while laying in my bed? Right now I have
two genelec 8040 studio monitors on each side connected with a monitor
controller to my orion webbox. Just because I had these monitors anyway. The
sound is great, but I often fall asleep and have to turn off the monitors
somewhere when I wake up a bit. So, I hope I'll be able to get rid of that
issue as well.

yep, I agree with chris here. the echo dots may be the way to go. The alexa
ap is very accessible on the I-phone and android phones. Any of those
echo dots or amazon products always be on sale throughout the year. I
have the echo dot gen3 versions everywhere in my place. very easy to use. I
liked the gen 3 echo dots because there like the size of a hocky puck. the
echo gen 4 and 5's, they changed the shape into almost like a tennis ball
shape. When I'm listening to music or podcast, or setting alarm and timers
and checking the weather and stuff, I just use my ehco dot's, if I don't
have my cell phone nere me. if I'm watching/ listening to a movie using
the streaming aps like netflix, prime video, disney plus, max, I just
usually play those on my roku or fire tv sticks with the audio description
turned on. yep.

Hi Ben,
Yes, I've certainly been able to set mine up without assistance, a further
thought if you do not want a screen, then you could just opt for a Echo Dot
Gen 5, it's a spherical shaped device with a textile feel casing, about the
size of a ttypical alarm clock.
Without the screen you would sacrifice the ability to have Netflix and
Amazon Prime video content some of which has audio description, but if audio
media is your primary requirement then it might be a consideration.
They often have sales and you may pick one up for under $30

Have many thanks for your suggestion. I've never heard about the amazon echo
show, had to look it up. I admit, I got a bit behind these years because I
had my focus on other things.
So, from what I understand this device has a touchscreen? Not exactly what I
was hoping for, because I'd like to use as bedside thing. But maybe this is
a sacrifize I'd had to make. It's for sure a new world to me and I'll gladly
check it out. There seem to be accessability options like a screen reader?
So hope, an echo show can be setup without sighted help.

Hi Ben,
What about an amazon Echo Show?, there are skills for listening to internet
radio, podcasts, and lots of other audio content including audible, you can
link Netflix, amazon Prime, Spotify and Amazon music, so plenty of media
options.
It is configurable through the Alexa app, is voice controlled, has a front
camera which also has a show and tell feature, there is also voice view the
built in screen reader.
I get that many are not Amazon fans, but out of the box and at a very
inexpensive price, it's an option that could be a consideration.
I confess I have many alexa devices around the home and they have
transformed my life for the better.

Hi all
I have an orion webbox which was decent and even great about ten years ago.
Today most of its functions have been stripped off and have to be paid for.
So I'd like to get something new which gives me back the ability to
subscribe and listen to podcasts, internet radio, maybe even video content
if possible. I don't want to be forced to pay for a plan just for doing
things others can have for free.
But it should be a device which can operate over wired LAN and doesn't need
WLAN regularly because I have turned it off over night. It should be
accessible, at least when configuring over the computer or iphone app. But I
hope there is something out there which doesn't need to be operated by an
iphone all the time. I prefer real physical buttons over touch screen. I
really don't want to have my mobile phone in my bedroom for listening music
because I get a headache when I'm too close to it. Maybe some optional
speech assistant would be nice so I could ask what the title of a current
playing song is. Is there a product which could do all these things?
