I visited Estonia every time I had a sabbatical, initially because I was
already friendly with Ullas and Meeli Tankler. It was very interesting going
back at 7-year intervals, and seeing the progress. The first visit was 1994,
just 3 years after they’d become independent from the Soviet Union. Each time
I went, I could see quite a bit of development, both in the church and in the
nation. If I hadn’t retired when I did, I’d have gone again 5 years ago. Now
we keep in touch by email and FB. I think if I were in your shoes, Helen, Riga
would definitely be part of my sabbatical plans!
