Workshop on field herpetology and wildlife ecology by NAJA India
22, 23, 24 March 2019
At The Jungle Camp, Aswali (north of Mumbai)
This field workshop is perfect for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers
who want to learn wildlife conservation science. This workshop is open for
all, you only require an enthusiasm for wilderness and the outdoors!
You will gain first-hand experience of studying wildlife, their behaviors,
their habitats, and threats. There will be a special focus on herpetology.
Activities will include forest exploration, wildlife watching, surveys,
scientific data collection, nature photography, interactive discussions,
and having a lot of fun.
The workshop will be held in the wet evergreen montane forests of Bahrod
mountain range in Dahanu of Thane district. We will explore various
ecological niches of the forest by trekking on several trails, during day
and night. The forest is home to over 150 species of birds, over 15 species
of mammals, over 35 species of herps, and many invertebrates. We will stay
in The Jungle Farm – a responsible nature-based campsite with all
necessities, adjoining a beautiful montane forest. Accommodation will be on
a shared basis in tents and treetop dormitories! The Jungle Camp is
situated in Aswali (around 135kms. from both Mumbai & Surat). Aswali is in
the north of Mumbai - well connected via Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway. The
nearest railway station is Gholvad railway station which has several trains
coming daily from Gujarat and Mumbai.
We will organize pickup and drop for participants from Gholvad railway
