Dear all,
There is an excellent opportunity for Students/Researchers/ Interns to work
on *Scrubland birds* in scrub forests of Andhra Pradesh and contribute to
important and threatened species conservation work. While simultaneously
having volunteer experience of a lifetime.
Volunteers have the opportunity to learn line transects for birds,
vegetation sampling, and ecology of scrubland birds and make a meaningful
contribution to the protection of threatened ecosystems outside protected
areas. This work is also part of a PhD. The study will be done under the
guidance of renowned ornithologists Dr. Douglas James and Dr. Ragupathy
Kannan.
*Field site*
Our volunteer work will cover parts of Scrub forests around Rishi Valley
School, Foothills of Horsley Hills and Noorukuppalakonda Reserve Forest,
close to Madanapalle, Chittoor district. Madanapalle is a town in Andhra
Pradesh situated approximately 110km East from Bangalore. These sites are
home to threatened birds such as Yellow-throated Bulbul.
*The main responsibilities for this position are*
(a) Carrying out bird census
(b) Collection of micro-habitat vegetation data
(c) Communicating with local villagers regarding the effects of
anthropogenic activities on forests.
*Requirements*
1. The candidate must be able to identify scrubland birds, knowledge
of plants would be desired though not required.
2. Fluency in Telugu language would be desired though not necessary.
3. The job will require working for long hours (6-10 hrs) and walking,
hiking long distances.
4. Duration will be approximately of 3 and half month work starting
mid of April.
