Subject: Urgent: Volunteers/Interns required for animal behaviour study in
CES IISc
To: Young Ecologists Talk & Interact Yeti <meet.yeti@xxxxxxxxx>
Hello,
I am an Int. PhD student in Prof. Rohini Balakrishnan's lab at CES, IISc
and I would require assistance of volunteers/interns for my work. I would
highly appreciate if you could kindly forward the mail below to any
interested candidate.
Hello all,
This is to inform you about the *opportunity of a voluntary internship at
Prof. Rohini **Balakrishnan's lab in Centre for Ecological Sciences, IISc*.
The study investigates the *unique baffling behaviour *& *mating behavior *
of a tree cricket species, *Oecanthus henryi*. Baffling is a process
whereby the males of this species are able to amplify their acoustic signal
by calling from a leaf hole that they make during their active period. The
internship would involve observations of these two behaviours over a period
of 3 months, *October** - December **2018*.
*The internship will offer a learning experience in: *
1) making *focal animal observations* during the evenings from *1830 to
2200hrs* in an indoor setting inside the Indian Institute of Science campus
using various acoustic measurements and obervational sampling methods, and
2) *animal handling and rearing techniques* in the laboratory.
The latter part of the work is conducted in the morning between *1230-1530*
hours.
There are slots available for 4-5 interns.
Interested candidates are requested to carefully go through the above
details before writing back to me along with their CVs at
sambita.modak@xxxxxxxxx.
*Provision for accommodation and transportation is not included in this
internship.*
Do forward this message to whoever you think would be interested.
Thank you,
Sambita Modak
