Hope this email finds you in good health.
I am Chayanika Guin, Associate in Network for Certification and
Conservation of Forests. I am a part of the research project team which has
been awarded by Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education
titled: "Popularization of the Use of Wood and Wood Substitutes as Per the
National Forest Policy and Modalities for Facilitating Industries for Its
Optimum Utilization". Right now, we are in the process of conducting a
survey for our policy research study.
The aim of the study is to understand the scenario of wood-based
industries, the expansion of industry and the challenges faced which are
hindering the growth. Factors which influence the growth of wood-based
industries which have been barriers in and what improvements can be
suggested. Based on such an understanding we can provide suggestions as to
which measure and factors can prove beneficial in the long run.
Much of the information has been available through the Internet, reports,
news articles, research papers, journals, books, and other documents. But
to be up to date with the recent information regarding forest-based
industries we wish to interact with certain stakeholders associated
directly and indirectly with the sector and can wish to contribute to this
project in any way possible. Therefore, we wish to conduct survey with
stakeholders which fall in the given categories:
- Farmer producer organizations
- Forest-based industrialists,
- Government Departments, (forestry, environment and agricultural sector)
- Non-Government Organizations & community-based organization, (forestry,
environment and agricultural sector)
- Universities and Research Institutes (forestry, environment and
agricultural sector)
- Architects and Builders who are using natural substances like wood,
bamboo, etc. and artificial substances like cement, plastics or metal.
The purpose of the survey is to understand the present situation about all
influencing factors such as raw materials availability, wood transport,
imports as also the opportunities and challenges promotion of the use of
products made from wood and wood substitutes. The suggestions received will
enable NCCF to ascertain the current gaps in policy and legal framework and
suggest ways to address the gaps.
Considering your expertise in the core research area of utilization and
uptake of wood in India we request you to become part of the study and
contribute to developing domestic manufacturing as per the benchmarked
international standards. We request you please take some time out from your
busy schedule and fill up the questionnaire through your honest and
