Dear colleague,

The National Board for Wildlife (NBWL) and its Standing Committee
(SC-NBWL) has taken an initiative to frame ecologically sound policy and
guidelines related to linear infrastructure intrusions such as roads and
powerlines in India. In this connection, a detailed background paper
reviewing the science and ecological / social issues was prepared
outlining a suggested policy schema. Subsequently, at the behest of the
SC-NBWL, draft guidelines on roads and powerlines were also drafted and
submitted to the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF).

This is to inform you that the background paper and draft guidelines
have now been put up on the website of the Ministry of Environment and
Forests (http://moef.nic.in/modules/others/?f=wildlife) for _public
feedback over the next two months_:

*Cover letter:* http://moef.nic.in/assets/Letter-wl-20123007.pdf
(attached for your reference)
*Background Review Paper:*
http://moef.nic.in/assets/Linear%20intrusions%20background%20paper.pdf
*Draft guidelines for roads and powerlines:*
http://moef.nic.in/assets/FIRSTDraft%20guidelines%20roads%20and%20powerlines.pdf

The idea is to first receive inputs from a wide range of stakeholders
around the country before revising the guidelines and presenting the
revised guidelines to the Standing Committee of the National Board for
Wildlife, and the National Board for Wildlife, after the end of the two
month consultation period.

*I hereby request you to kindly go through these documents and send your
detailed and specific comments and inputs inputs on the draft guidelines
to the designated email address _linearintrusions@xxxxxxxxx
<mailto:linearintrusions@xxxxxxxxx>_ as mentioned in the MoEF letter
cited above before 20 September 2012. *

Please note that the inputs are requested specifically on the draft
guidelines document on roads and powerlines. However, if you would like
to bring to attention any new information or research publications
related to the background paper, kindly mark those comments separately,
attaching copies of relevant publications or documents. Please send all
comments and responses related to this subject to
*linearintrusions@xxxxxxxxx*

You may wish to highlight this public feedback request among your
contacts and circles as it will help to receive more inputs from
stakeholders. I am happy to provide more information, if required.

Thanks and regards,

Shankar
