*Project Name:* Conservation of Great Indian Bustard and its Habitats in
Thar landscapes
*Location: *Jaisalmer, Rajasthan
*Reports to:* Country Director
*Duration: *one year
*Work experience:* minimum 12 years of relevant work experience project
implementation, building teams and local communities networks, ecology,
biodiversity management and documentation and sustainable livelihoods.

*About the project: *The project aims to save the GIB and its habitats in
Thar Desert in collaboration with Rajasthan forest department. The project
focuses on addressing different threats by adopting a broad multi-pronged
approach to transform local communities by bringing about desired change in
their knowledge, attitudes & skills.
*Required Qualification, Skills & Abilities:*
Master’s degree in Wildlife Science/Social science. PhD degree in wildlife
sciences or an allied subject will be preferable.
Excellent communication skills with ability to mobilize community in local
language i.e. Rajasthani, Hindi.
Willing to work in the field in all types of weather conditions and terrain.
Excellent in coaching and directing teams, planning, time management,
problem solving and organizational abilities.
Ability to plan and organize a substantial workload that includes complex,
diverse tasks and responsibilities and adverse conditions.
Problem solving, decision making and delegation & team building skills
Leadership skills, including the ability to supervise and motivate staff
effectively.
Good analytical skills and verse with MS Office, SPSS, R and other
modelling and evaluation tools.
Must have a valid driving license.
*Job Responsibilities:*
- Draw up strategies for protection and conservation of the Great Indian
Bustard in Rajasthan to be implemented in collaboration with the Rajasthan
Forest Department.
- Support the department in scientific monitoring and systematic
assessment of GIB populations and their trends.
- Work in tandem with the Forest department Government of Rajasthan and
WII in making the GIB captive breeding programme and complement it with
In-situ conservation plans.
- Get extensive habitat suitability surveys done in the potential GIB site
and prepare landscape level conservation plans.
- Workout with local communities in building relationships and mobilise
support for the conservation of GIB
- Build a local team of conservation assistants and GIB enclosure
guardians (community workers) to implement the project
- Identify eco-friendly livelihood activities, impart training, build
the capacity to adapt to the alternate livelihoods.
- Build a sustainable community conservation model in Rajasthan focused
in Sudasari in the Desert National Park. Explore the feasibility of
developing selected sites as easements,
- Actively liase with the Rajasthan Forest Department and other
government departments in Rajasthan and at the centre to obtain approvals
for the broader Great Indian Bustard conservation programme covering the
voluntary relocation of villages from the DNP.
- Building of protected habitats for bustards and rehabilitation of
habitats.
- Once approved, implement the voluntary relocation programme
effectively and help the department in creating an effective core area and
simultaneously support the community development.
- Implement all actionable items from the proposal submitted to the
Rajasthan Forest Department for the project on Conservation of the Great
Indian Bustard.
- Seek effective solutions to the problem of power lines in the critical
Great Indian Bustard habitat and work with concerned stakeholders to
mitigate this critical risk.
