This may interest some birders on this list.
Research opportunity in a bird diversity study
Research topic:
GKVK, UAS, Bangalore and Georg-August-University, Germany are involved
in a collaborative biodiversity research project and are looking for a
skilled field biologist. The project intends to study the effects of
urbanization on biodiversity and ecosystem services, with a special
focus on biological pest control for agriculture. Part of the work
would do an inventory of the diversity and abundance of birds in urban
Bangalore and the surrounding rural areas.
Tasks:
Field work will involve censusing birds in about 40 filed plots spread
over 80x20 Km located and across north and south Bangalore, on a
regular basis. The Field work will have 3 sampling rounds of 2 months
each (August - September 2017, January-February 2018, April - May
2018).
Skills:
A good knowledge of the local bird fauna is mandatory. Ideally, the
candidate should already have experience in related studies. Fluency
in English and Kannada is required.
Applicant should be reliable, punctual and be able to work
independently. The candidate should have his/her own means of
transportation, ideally a two-wheeler and binoculars. Fuel costs will
be covered by the project.
Salary:
Salary will be in line with the remunerations of a research fellow at
UAS, Bangalore, but negotiable.
Duration:
It is planned to hire one person for 6 months, for the time duration
of the study.
