Archi -- Archi Rastogi, Ph.D. Postdoctoral Scholar Sustainable Futures Research Lab Department of Natural Resource Sciences McGill University http://sustainability-research.mcgill.ca/people/Rastogi.html Graduate Research Assistantship Announcement The Department of Forest and Rangeland Stewardship at Colorado State University is recruiting a graduate student (M.S. or Ph.D.) to conduct research focused on adaptive planning and management for U.S. forests. The specific topic of the student’s research could involve comparative analysis of forest planning and monitoring processes in the United States and internationally, investigation of large-scale planning processes, analysis of implementation of the U.S. Forest Service’s new planning rule as a model of adaptive planning for ecological resilience, or consideration of the role of climate change in forest planning and management. We have initial funding for two years and likely for a third year. The student would, with guidance, conduct literature reviews, develop a set of research questions, identify appropriate research methodologies, conduct fieldwork and data analysis, develop workshops and/or webinars for practitioners, and write publications. The student would be expected to identify a relevant research topic, study theory to integrate into their research, develop skills for their selected research methodologies, and work efficiently towards refereed journal publications during and subsequent to their graduate program. The position requires approximately 20 hours/week and includes a monthly stipend and the potential for tuition credit. We are seeking a student with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree closely related to natural resource management, human dimensions of natural resource management, public administration, political science, or other relevant interdisciplinary programs. Familiarity with U.S. national forest policy and management is strongly preferred. Student must be able and willing to work independently and use their own intellectual creativity to design a project, complete tasks in an efficient and timely manner, and participate in a collaborative research project with researchers and partners outside the university. We seek a student who is excited about this research focus, fun to work with, a skilled communicator, enjoys working in team settings, and for which this position will support future career directions. Evidence of intellectual achievement and the ability to think creatively and independently are essential. The GRA will be subject to six-month re-appointments based on semi-annual review of performance as a GRA and progress as a graduate student.
