Human & Environment Alliance League (H.E.A.L) invites applications from
conservation practitioners and students (bachelor's and master's) for a
workshop on exploring and learning mapping tools.

The workshop will be based in Kolkata and will be conducted over four days
- 28th -31st January, 2019.

Bipin Charles from Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment
(ATREE https://atree.org/) will convene the workshop.

Interested applicants may go through the syllabus and schedule of the
workshop pasted below:

DAY 1:

9: 30 am  - 10: 30 am - Mapping as essential tool in conservation -
discussion of recent publications
10:30 am - 10:45 am - Coffee/Tea Break
10:45 am - 1:00 pm   - Fundamentals of Remote Sensing
1:00 pm   -  2:00 pm  - Lunch break
2:00 pm   -  4:00 pm  -  Exploring different forums for accessing freely
available data on
                                      remote-sensing / downloading data for
practicals
4:00 pm   -  4:15 pm  -  Coffee/Tea Break
4:15 pm   -  6:00 pm  -  Discussion session on specific needs of candidates

DAY 2

9: 30 am  - 10: 00 am - Pre-processing of datasets for analysis
11:00 am - 11:15 am  - Coffee/Tea Break
11:15 am - 1:00 pm   - Exploring different indices for supervised
classification
1:00 pm   -  2:00 pm  - Lunch Break
2:00 pm   -  3:30 pm  -  Interpretation of indices
3:30 pm   -  3:45 pm  -  Coffee/Tea Break
3:45 pm   -  6:00 pm  -  Unsupervised classification and preparation of
training sets for
                                      supervised classification

DAY 3

9:30 am   -  1:00 pm  -  Supervised classification
1:00 pm   -  2:00 pm  -   Lunch Break
2:00 pm   -  3:30 pm  -   Introduction to Google Earth systems
3:30 pm   -  3:45 pm  -   Coffee/Tea Break
3:45 pm   -  6:00 pm  -   How to conduct the same classification in Google
Earth engine

Day 4

9:30 am   -  1:00 pm  -  Doubt clearing sessions / Responding to specific
queries pertaining
                                      to data sets brought by participants
1:00 pm   -  2:00  pm  -  Lunch Break
2:00  pm  -  3:00 pm   -  Examination on concepts of mapping (MCQ type)
4:00 pm   -  5:30 pm   -  Doubt clearing sessions /  Responding to specific
queries pertaining
                                      to data sets brought by participants
5: 30 pm  -  6:00 pm  -   Valedictory session


The workshop fees is *5000 INR *(training+materials+lunch+snacks).

Please note that the workshop can host *only 20 participants. *

*5 full scholarships *and* 5 half-scholarships *are available for deserving
students.

Interested applicants may send a Statement of Purpose to
healearth2010@xxxxxxxxx explaining why they would want to attend the
workshop and how it would specifically help them in their current work.

Students applying for scholarships need to send an additional document
detailing their financial background and why they need the scholarship.

Prospective applicants must apply on or before *31st December, 2018*.

Successful candidates will be acknowledged via mail on the 2nd of January,
2019. Thereafter, the process of registration must be completed within 5th
of January, 2019.
