Project Background Brief Project Description: UNDP supports the Government of India in its vision to achieve faster, and more inclusive growth. Guided by the Millennium Development Goals and the vision of the Twelfth Five Year Plan, UNDP promotes social, economic and political inclusion for the most disadvantaged. The UNDP Energy and Environment (E&E) Unit works towards the goal of sustainable development in India. The Unit supports the Government to meet national commitments under the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Convention to Combat Desertification and the UN Framework Convention for Climate Change. The Unit builds national capacity for conservation and management of natural resources. Cross-cutting themes of specific interest are capacity development, inclusion, technical support and South-South cooperation. In the thematic area of ‘natural resources’, UNDP works on governance frameworks and capacities for water and biodiversity, community-driven systems of conservation and sustainable use of water and biodiversity, and related issues of access, benefit sharing, resilience and livelihoods. On these sub-themes, UNDP works with the national, state and local governments, as well as community institutions, NGOs and technical support agencies. Under the guidance and supervision of the Assistant Country Director and Head, E&E Unit, the Research Associate is responsible for supporting the implementation of the UNDP projects in the thematic area of Natural Resources to effectively deliver on results. Duties and Responsibilities: • Work closely and liaise with National and State Project Management Units working on natural resource management/biodiversity conservation/land degradation projects for day to day implementation of project activities • Help in collection and compilation of information related to natural resource management/biodiversity conservation/land degradation in India, including the latest developments at the national and international level • Assist in preparation and timely submission of Quarterly and Annual Work plan and Annual Progress Reports and other relevant documents • Support management of budget, financial expenditures and compile financial reports of projects in the NRM thematic area • Assist in the procurement of services and goods under the project • Organize and arrange support for events and initiatives organized by the Natural Resource Management - Energy and Environment Unit • Support preparation of communication materials for dissemination and facilitate publication of key documents, brochures, articles etc • Provide support for any allied activity in relation to the knowledge management working of Natural Resource Management – Energy and Environment Unit • Any other activity, as suggested by the Head, Energy and Environment Unit Desired skills: • Good knowledge of the key concerns and challenges facing policy makers and development practitioners in the area of environment and natural resource management • Outstanding time-management, organizational and inter-personal skills. • Effective at securing relevant information through desk research • Motivated, energetic, thorough, and responsive to the needs of the project partners • Excellent drafting skills • Excellent analytical, organizational and presentational skills IV.
