*Project on traits and tree species distributions in the Eastern Ghats*
We invite applications from highly motivated and eligible candidates for
one position of Project Associate I (equivalent to Junior Research Fellow)
in the project titled “The role of functional traits in tree species
distributions across environmental gradients in a tropical dry ecosystem”
funded by SERB-DST. The candidate will be employed by the Centre for
Cellular and Molecular Biology and be based at the Laboratory for
Conservation of Endangered Species (Hyderabad).
*Project duration*: up to Feb 2023
*Position duration*: On contract basis for one year, subject to review
before renewal. The PI reserves the discretion to renew.
*Pay*: as per SERB guidelines
*Location*: Amarabad Tiger Reserve, Nagarjunsagar Srisailam Tiger Reserve,
Gundla Brahmeshwaram Wildlife Sanctuary (Telangana and Andhra Pradesh)
*Job description*:
The work requires substantial time collecting field data in the
above-mentioned locations. The candidate will have to manage field
assistants, interface with the forest department, plan data collection
schedules, implement the research plan, and organize data in a prescribed
format. The candidate should be prepared to work in difficult field
conditions with minimal facilities. The work will require a good measure of
physical fitness to cover long distances in rugged terrain on a regular
basis.
*Qualifications*
*Essential*
1. Master’s Degree in ecology, wildlife biology, environmental science
or allied discipline
2. Open/ EWS/ OBC-NCL candidates must have secured a minimum CPI/ CGPI/
CGPA of 6.5 on a 10-point scale (or equivalent) or 60% marks in Master
Degree. Whereas, in the case of SC/ ST candidates, a minimum CGPI of 6.0 on
a 10-point scale (or equivalent) or 55% marks in Master Degree shall be
applicable.
*Desirable*
1. Prior experience with fieldwork
2. Spoken knowledge of Telugu and Hindi
3. Proficiency with excel
4. Basic skills in statistical analysis
5. Basic knowledge of program R (for data analysis)
