In this webinar, Serge Wich will review recent examples of how drones have
been applied to conservation. These will include the counting of orangutan
and chimpanzee nests to determine their distribution and density, automatic
detection of species using thermal infrared sensors, land-cover
classification and change monitoring, and some thoughts on the future of
technology and conservation.

The Global Land Analysis and Discovery (GLAD) laboratory in the Department
of Geographical Sciences at the University of Maryland is focused on the
global land cover and change monitoring using mass-processing of satellite
imagery, primarily from the Landsat program. This webinar will focus on UMD
GLAD global forest monitoring, including the technical aspects of satellite
data processing and currently available forest monitoring products. The
technical presentation will be followed by a live demonstration of the UMD
GLAD web resources.
